The house was erected according to the plans of a Finnish architect named Alvar Aalto who designed it for the collector and gallery owner, Louis Carré. Its construction ended in 1959 and that of the swimming-pool in 1963.
This house is the only private house built in France by Alvar Aalto and the most outstanding one with its furniture and its garden: Louis Carré’s house is really considered as a masterpiece of modern architecture.
